Baran To Transfer From Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern head men's basketball coach Bill Carmody has announced that Nikola Baran has decided to transfer from the Wildcats' program and pursue playing opportunities at another institution.

"I would like to thank Nikola for his commitment to our program for the past two seasons," Carmody said. "He has decided to seek another opportunity where he can receive more playing time and we wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors."

A native of Zagreb, Croatia, Baran appeared in all 30 games as a redshirt freshman during the 2007-08 season, including making 16 starts. The 6-foot-8-inch forward posted averages of 3.1 points, 1.1 rebounds and 13.5 minutes per contest. He shot 29.8 percent from the field, including 22.4 percent from 3-point range and 68.0 percent from the free throw line.
