MURRELLS INLET, S.C. - Senior Wildcat Kyle Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) is tied for third after shooting a 2-over 146 during the first day of action at the General Jim Hackler Invitational, which is hosted by Coastal Carolina at the TPC of Myrtle Beach.
The Wildcats as a team are in seventh after going 32-over par during Sunday's two rounds of play. The team tied for ninth after the morning round, firing a 20-over 308 before bouncing back with a 12-over 300 in the afternoon -- the third lowest total for any team in the second round.
The 'Cats are three shots behind 19th-ranked Wake Forest and defending champions Lamar, who are in a tie for fifth. Augusta State and Pepperdine are tied for eighth, trailing Northwestern by five shots.
Moore shot 1-over par in both of Sunday's rounds, including a birdie on the par-3 seventh on a course notorious for difficult par-3s. He birdied two consecutive holes on the front nine in the morning and did it again to start off the second round.
Two Wildcats showed dramatic improvement as the day went on, both finishing the second round with 2-over par 74s. Senior Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) jumped 14 spots after the morning round to finish tied for 18th with a 7-over 151 for the day. Freshman Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) sits in a tie for 41st after bouncing back from an opening round 9-over 81.
Sophomore David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) and freshman Ravi Patel (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) are tied for 55th with five others at 14-over par. Lipsky and Patel each turned in two rounds of 7-over 79.
The General Hackler Invitational continues with the final round scheduled to start at 7 a.m. Central Monday morning. To follow the action online, go to Golfstat.com.
