Wildcats Crush Ball State, 6-1

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Northwestern took two of three doubles matches and swept all five singles matches as it finished off a 6-1 victory over Ball State on Sunday at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
Junior Marc Dwyer (Peachtree City, Ga./University of Nebraska-Independent Study H.S.) and sophomore Alex Sanborn (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) started the match off on a positive note for the Wildcats, taking an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 doubles spot. Freshman Peter Rispoli (Naples, Fla./St. Stephen's (Texas)) and graduate student Alexander Thams (Stockholm, Sweden/Enskilda Gymnasiet) also won their match, 9-8(5), which gave the 'Cats the doubles point.
Playing at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, Dwyer and Sanborn both won in straight sets, giving the 'Cats two more points. Dwyer won his match 6-4, 6-3, while Sanborn won 6-2, 6-4.
Rispoli also chipped in with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 4. Fellow freshman David Seyferth (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) won his first match of the season and senior Juan Gomez (Mexico City, Mexico) closed out the match 7-5, 6-2.
The Wildcats' only loss was by Thams, who had to retire in the third set, while leading 7-6(5), 3-6, 2-1. It was the second time this weekend Thams ended his match early.
NU returns to Evanston for a three-match home stand starting with Butler on Friday, followed by Notre Dame and Bradley.
