SAN MARTIN, Calif. -- On the final day of the CordeValle Collegiate, Northwestern improved by four strokes to finish in sixth place at the third annual event. The Wildcats shot a 1-under 359 (five player scores were used for team scoring instead of the traditional four) for Wednesday's third-best team round.
Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) finished the tournament as the Wildcats' hottest golfer as he fired a final-day 5-under 67 to move from 41st to a 13th-place tie. Doyle finished with an even-par 216 (74-75-67) for the tournament.
Tying Doyle for the team lead, also in 13th place, was Andy DeKeuster (Franksville, Wis./Racine Lutheran), who finished with a 1-over 73 and an even-par 216 (74-69-73) for the 54 holes.
Four other Northwestern golfers finished in the top 50, led by Kyle Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) with a 2-over 218 (72-72-74) and David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) with an 8-over 224 (77-72-75).
Henrik Norlander of Augusta State, Sihwan Kim of Stanford and James Lee of UCLA finished in a three-way tie for first place, while UCLA outdistanced Stanford by 11 strokes for the team title.
Northwestern returns to action next February.
