Wildcat Invitational Comes to a Close

EVANSTON, Ill.-- On the third and final day of the Wildcat Invitational, participants from Minnesota and Western Michigan were crowned champions on Sunday at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
In the Flight A Singles consolation bracket, sophomore Alex Sanborn (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) and junior Alexey Evstratenkov (Moscow, Russia/Moscow International Gymnasia) defeated opponents from Minnesota and Western Michigan, respectively, to finish out the tournament.
Tobias Wernet of Minnesota took the Flight A Singles title with a 7-5, 6-4 victory in the finals. In the Flight B Singles final, R.K. Bacalla defeated his opponent by default, and his teammates Alejandro Staub and Bryan Norville took the doubles title based on the fewest amount of games lost in lieu of a finals.
The Invitational served as the tennis team's first matches of the fall season, with their next test coming at the ITA Midwest Regionals on Oct. 18 in Minneapolis, Minn.
