Milwaukee, Wis. -- After winning the season-opener against UW-Milwaukee on Friday night, the Wildcats dropped the second game of the Sixth Annual Milwaukee Cup Sunday afternoon to Marquette, 2-1. Tabitha Lowey (Peachtree City, Ga./Mcintosh) scored the Wildcats' goal on an assist from freshman Amanda Hoffman (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill).

"I thought we definitely played hard," said head coach Jenny Haigh. "I think we were just outplayed today. The good news is that the goals we gave up are definitely fixable. On any other day, we can certainly play that quality of soccer."

NU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring in the fifth minute. Lowey surprised Marquette with a 10-yard shot to the far post. Hoffman recorded the assist as the Wildcats dominated possession in the first four minutes.

But the Golden Eagles answered off a corner kick just three minutes and 24 seconds later. Marquette notched what proved to be the winning goal in the 18th minute. Katie Kelly launched a 50-yard effort that looped over junior goalkeeper Whitney Jones (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) and into the upper far corner. Jones recorded four saves on the day.

Tori Bohannon (Neenah, Wis./Neenah), Jeanette Lorme (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus) and Kelsey Hans (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville) were named to the Sixth Annual Milwaukee Cup All Tournament Team.

The Wildcats (1-1) travel to Texas Tech to tangle with the Red Raiders on Friday, Sept. 2. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
