EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Northwestern's men's tennis team bowed out of the 2005 Big Ten Indoor Singles Championships Sunday. Freshman Marc Dwyer (Peachtree City, Ga./University of Nebraska Independent Study High School) advanced to the round of 16 Saturday, but fell to Minnesota's D.J. Geatz Sunday.
Dwyer, who won consecutive matches Saturday to move into the round of 16, fell to Minnesota's D.J. Geatz 7-6 (3), 6-2.
While Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium Lohbrügge) fell in the opening round Saturday, he has made a run in the back draw portion of the tournament. Tempke recorded consolation wins over Wisconsin's Elliot Bisnow and Ohio State's Ty Shaub, but fell to Minnesota's Nic Edlefsen 7-6 (7), 6-2 in his third consolation match.
Freshman Alexey Evstratenkov made a run in the consolation bracket as well. Evstratenkov topped Lance Kasarov 7-6 (8), 6-3, but fell to Michigan's Andrew Mazlin in his next match.
Senior Adam Schaechterle fell in his first consolation match of the day, a 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 defeat to Penn State's Michael James.
The Wildcats return to action January 8, 2006, at home against Illinois-Chicago.
