'Cats Lead Dual Competition After Day One

TUCSON, Ariz. -- After Day One of competition at the University of Arizona, Northwestern holds a 92-56 advantage over host UA and a 109-39 lead on Washington. The Wildcats entered this weekend's action ranked No. 14 in the newest College Swimming Coaches Association of America poll.
The three-team dual meet will conclude tomorrow.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead Friday, capturing the 200 Free Relay before Mike Alexandrov, Brian Davis and Mike Gustafson swept the top three spots in the 400 IM for NU.
Sophomore Matt Grevers then won the 100 Free with a time of 44.39 before capturing the 200 Back in 1:46.81 -- more than two seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
Alexandrov then finished first in the 200 Breast in 1:59.39, more than three seconds ahead of his nearest competition.
It was not until the sixth event of the day that the Wildcats did not have a first place finisher, but freshmen Kyle Bubolz and David Kormushoff still finished 2-3 in the 100 Fly.
NU concluded Day One action with a Davis win in the 500 Free with a time of 4:29.86 before the 'Cats took the 400 Medley Relay in 3:17.54.
