WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Senior Tom Johnson (Sacramento, Calif./Del Campo) was unable to end his illustrious Northwestern career on a high note, shooting a 13-over 85 on Saturday and finish 66th (72-76-85=233) at the NCAA Central Regional at Purdue's Birck Boilermaker Golf Course.
Johnson started the tournament with an even-par 72 on Thursday, which left him in 10th place (among 141 golfers) after the first round. He dropped to 19th place after Friday's second round.
Johnson's final round consisted of 10 pars, five bogeys, a double bogey and two triple bogeys. The 13-over 85 was his worst round of the year.
"Tom has had a great career at Northwestern," said NU head coach Pat Goss. "I know he didn't want to see his career end the way that it did."
Johnson finishes second on Northwestern's career stroke average behind All-America Luke Donald.
Kentucky won the team championship, defeating Oklahoma State by 11 strokes. Kentucky's John Holmes won the individual title by two shots. Purdue, the host school, finished seventh and is one of nine other schools from the Central Regional that will join Kentucky at the NCAA National Championships.
