EVANSTON, Ill. - In the opening game of Northwestern's Wednesday evening match at Wisconsin, the 'Cats (8-15, 3-10 Big Ten) went stride for stride with the Badgers (16-5, 10-3) as the two teams were tied eight times. At the 17-17 mark though, Wisconsin went on a 13-2 run, pulling away to close out game one 30-19. The Badgers completed the sweep by winning games two and three by scores of 30-19 and 30-20.
Freshman Lindsay Anderson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) posted a team-leading five kills in the opening frame and 13 total on the night.
Julie Purcell (Lousiville, Ky./Assumption) came off the bench in game two to provide a familiar offensive spark for the `Cats by nailing two kills early on, giving the `Cats a 3-1 lead. But Wisconsin was too strong, hitting .457 to NU's .235 to grab the win 30-19. Stephanie Jurivich (LaGrange, Ill./St. Ignatius) recorded four kills in game two with a .667 hitting percentage.
The `Cats juggled their lineup for game three, moving Lizzie Carlson (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) to libero, while Christie Gardner (West Bend, Wis./West Bend) slid over to the outside hitter position. Gardner brought the wood with four over-powering kills and a consistent .375 hitting percentage. Carlson filled the back row with five digs on the night.
Senior co-captain Drew Robertson (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach) recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 28 assists and 10 digs. She also added three kills with a .333 hitting percentage.
