Final Stats
EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern (8-16, 3-11 Big Ten) defeated No. 25 Illinois in the first game of the intra-state rivals Saturday night match in Champaign, Ill. The 'Cats played the nationally-ranked squad tough in the following games, but the Illini were too much, winning 3-1 (30-23, 23-30, 27-30, 27-30).
Freshman Lindsay Anderson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) led both teams with 21 kills on the night, including eight in the opening frame to power the 'Cat to a win. She finished the night with a .347 hitting percentage.
Senior co-captain Drew Robertson (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) posted her 13th double-double on the year with 58 assists and 10 digs, and was only two kills away from landing her second triple-double this season.
Freshman Courtnie Paulus (Belgium, Wis./Ozaukee) also recorded a double-double for the 'Cats with 13 kills and 10 digs. Freshman Stephanie Jurivich led all Wildcat attackers with a .382 hitting percentage off of 17 kills. She was two digs away from a double-double of her own, recording eight total.
Junior co-captain Christie Gardner returned to her libero postition after a brief stint as on outside hitter against Wisconsin and turned in another great night laced with diving, one-armed saves. She finished with 17 digs on the night.
The match against Illinois will be televised on ESPN2 at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7.
