LaQUINTA, Calif. -- It was a good homecoming for Northwestern's two California natives.
Senior Tom Johnson (Sacramento, Calif./Del Campo) and sophomore Dillon Dougherty (Woodland, Calif./Woodland) turned in the Wildcats' top two performances and placed third and 11th, respectively, at The Prestige at PGA West on the LaQuinta-Mountain Course. As a team, Northwestern placed fifth with a 4-over 868 (286-292-290).
Johnson, who fired a 4-under 68 on Tuesday, finished with a 6-under 210 (67-75-68) for his best outing of the fall. He placed four strokes back of TCU's Colby Beckstrom, who shot a 5-under 67 to win the tournament. Dougherty, who placed fourth earlier this fall at the Inverness Intercollegiate, finished with back-to-back 71's for a 1-under 215 (73-71-71).
Sophomore Bryson Young (Reno, Nev./Galena) and senior Casey Strunk (Phoenix, Ariz./Thunderbird) placed 40th and 42nd, respectively, with a 7-over 223 and an 8-over 224. Senior T.C. Ford (Covington, La./Mandeville) finished 60th at 15-over (75-74-82=231).
Northwestern, ranked 31st in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin index, now takes a break for the winter before returning to action in February at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate.
