Promotions Galore At Hoops This Weekend!

EVANSTON, Ill. - There will be plenty of great deals and chances to win prizes this weekend as the Northwestern men's and women's basketball teams begin the 2003-04 seasons at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The Wildcat men have two games at home this weekend, taking on Colorado Friday at 8 p.m. and Chicago State Sunday at 7 p.m. Prior to the men's game Friday, the Northwestern women host Creighton at 5 p.m.
For Friday's games, Northwestern faculty and staff members can get tickets for half-price at $8. This is an advanced sale only -- in order to get your half-price ticket you must stop by the athletic ticket office at the south end of Ryan Field (1501 Central Street) or call 847-491-CATS.
In addition, Friday's men's game will be Northwestern's annual "Take A Kid to the Game" promotion. Adults who purchase a ticket will get two free tickets for all kids aged 13 and under!
Sunday's game will be Youth Basketball Night, in which kids aged 13 and under who wear their youth basketball jersey will be able to get into the game for just five dollars. All family and friends who enter the game with their youth player will also receive five-dollar tickets!
For Northwestern students, Sunday's game provides you an opportunity to save on your ticket -- and help the underprivileged kids in the area with Thanksgiving on the way. Students who show up for Sunday's game with canned or perishable foods to donate will be able to purchase tickets for just two dollars (less than half the original price)! This promotion -- which benefits Boys Hope Girls Hope, a local scholarship program for underprivileged kids -- is being coordinated with Associated Student Government (ASG).
Members of the WildSide and Purple Pride participants can also get into the two-dollar act Sunday (Purple Pride is a spirit contest involving the University residence halls and colleges); they will be given a two-dollar "Student Meal Deal" which allows them to purchase a hot dog, chips and a soda for just two dollars -- a huge bargain! Be sure to check in at the marketing table in the lobby of Welsh-Ryan Arena prior to the game to pick up your coupon.
A quick updated on the Purple Pride contest, which continues with Sunday's game -- Elder is in the lead after four events. They took the lead from PARC following Halloween HOOP-la!
The start of the basketball season also brings the usual assortment of promotions that have enhanced your Welsh-Ryan experience -- in-game events such as the Barrel Head Pizzy Delivery of the game and the Nextel Ticket Hookup, as well as halftime promotions such as the LaSalle Bank Shots and the WildSide $100. And don't worry, the Traveling T-Shirts and Lucky Program are around again in 2003-04!
This year we will be offering a couple of new promotions. One is the United Airlines Fly It To Win at halftime, during which selected fans will be given the opportunity to make a paper airplane and try to fly it onto a landing strip in the middle of the court from their seat. If they succeed, they win round-trip airfare from United Airlines to anywhere in the Continental United States!
The other promotion will be the WildSide Fan of the Game contest, but this year we are adding a twist. We will start the first game with two fans, and allow the crowd to pick their favorite. The winner of that contest will move on to the next game, and a new challenger. So WildSide members, get your craziest purple outfit ready and try to run the table this season!
