EVANSTON, Ill.-Northwestern's Windon Memorial Classic, which has featured such collegiate stars as Luke Donald (Northwestern), Ben Curtis (Kent State), Tiger Woods (Stanford), Casey Martin (Stanford) and Hunter Mahan (USC/Oklahoma State), is set for its eighth edition this Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 6-7 at North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Ill.

The field for the 2003 Windon Memorial Classic includes Arizona, California, UC Davis, Illinois, Kent State, LSU, Michigan State, Minnesota, North Florida, defending champion Northwestern, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Rice, SMU, Stanford and Toledo. Seven of the 17 schools -- Arizona, Minnesota, Illinois, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, California and SMU -- all were ranked in the final top 50 of the 2002-03 Golfweek/Sagarin index.

"We're excited about this year's Windon field," said Northwestern Head Coach Pat Goss, when the field was announced this summer. "In just a few years, this has become one of the top college golf tournaments in the nation and has featured some of the outstanding up-and-coming golfers. For the first time, we get to defend the team title as well as the individual crown (Tom Johnson)."

Besides Northwestern, two other tournament defending champions are in this year's field: Kent State (1993 and 1999) and Minnesota (1994 and 1998). Tom Johnson (Sacramento, Calif./Del Campo), NU's top returning golfer, will attempt to become the Windon's first repeat and multiple champion.

The Windon Memorial Classic is a 54-hole tournament, with 36 holes played on Monday (Oct. 6) and 18 holes on Tuesday (Oct. 7). A practice round will be played Sunday.

The North Shore course measures 7,031 yards and is a par-72 with a course rating of 74.4 and a slope of 134. North Shore hosted the 1983 U.S. Amateur Championships, the 1939 U.S. Amateur and the 1933 U.S. Open.
