WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Matt Christian (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice) and Ahmed Wahla (Lahore, Pakistan/Lahore American School) went through the weekend unscathed, combining for an 11-0 record as Northwestern wrapped up play at the Boilermaker Invitational.

Wahla dropped Purdue's Eric Hodgman 6-2, 6-2 in his lone singles match. He then added two doubles wins, 8-2 over Purdue's Scott Warner and Eric Hodgman with Jamie Friedland (Glen Cove, N.Y./St. Stephen's), and 8-5 over Indiana's David Bubenicek and Tom Bagnato with Willy Lock (Lima, Peru/Markham College).

Christian added to his three wins from Saturday with two today, beating Purdue's Colin Foster 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 for the first. The other was with teammate Chuck Perrin (Atlanta, Ga./The Walker School), as the duo edged Purdue's Troy Havens and Paul Rose 9-7.

"Matt distinguished himself as a freshman," said head coach Paul Torricelli, whose team went 21-9 this weekend in tuning up for the ITA Midwest Championships. "He had a great start. I'm pleased he and the other freshmen got some matches under their belt."

Perrin was also doubles partner with Justin Hoeveler (Ross, Calif./The Branson School), and together they notched an 8-6 win over Indiana's Ryan McCarthy and Dmytro Ishtuganov.

Hoeveler was not as fortunate in his other matches, losing to Purdue's Jamie Kish 6-2, 6-3 in singles, and with teammate Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium Lohbrugge), losing to Purdue's Colin Foster and Filip Koziell 9-7 in doubles.

Tempke and Adam Schaechterle (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) both had rough days. In singles, the former fell to Purdue's Rose 6-0, 1-6, 6-3, while the latter lost to Purdue's Troy Havens 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Schaechterle also lost his doubles match, paired with Lock, 8-4 to Purdue's Seth McKinley and Sounak Chatterjee.

"I thought Tempke (against Rose) and Schaechterle (against Havens) were two of the best matches this weekend," said Torricelli. "It's just unfortunate they lost."

In other Wildcat singles action, Lock topped Purdue's Koziell 7-5, 6-4, and Friedland defeated Purdue's Scott Warner 6-4, 6-2.

Northwestern will next compete at the ITA Midwest Championships Oct. 23-28 in East Lansing, Mich.
