EVANSTON, Ill. - The following are excerpts from Northwestern head coach Bill Carmody following Saturday's 56-41 loss to Illinois at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Illinois coach Bill Self quotes were not available.

On his team's performance ...
"I felt that Illinois came to an away court and played at a high level. It went back and forth at the beginning. Their defense was just exceptional and we didn't get many good looks. After they got a 10-point lead, they all became very relaxed offensively."

On not hitting any three-point shots ...
"Our guys are veterans and have played in some big games. I don't know if it was us or them. Sometimes there are things that you want to do but you can't do because they won't let you."

On the loss being more disappointing since it was the last home game ...
"It was senior day. It was just that we didn't play as well as I think we are capable of playing. Again, I have to attribute that to Illinois playing really good defense."

On the ramifications of the remaining road games ...
"Our guys know what these games mean at this time of the year. We don't talk about it much, but we have just been saying, 'Wednesday, Saturday. Wednesday, Saturday.' However the standings fall out at the end, that is the way it will be. But our guys are certainly not unaware of the consequences of these games."
