EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) - Aaron Jennings had 16 points and seven rebounds and Jitim Young added 10 points as Northwestern defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore 56-36 on Friday.
Northwestern (1-0) never trailed in the contest, jumping out to a 22-6 lead over UMES on a Davor Duvancic basket with 7:37 to go in the first half. The Wildcats limited the Hawks (0-1) to just six field goals in the opening stanza, and the Hawks didn't get their first field goal until almost six minutes had passed when Didier Socka hit a jumper to make it 11-2.
The Wildcats took a 34-14 lead into the break, and UMES' point total at halftime matched the lowest surrendered by NU in a first half since Bill Carmody came on board as head coach.

Maryland-Eastern Shore got within 12 on a Tee Trotter jumper to make it 40-28 with 10:16 remaining. Northwestern came back with a 14-4 run, however, that started with a Jennings basket and ended with Young hitting a pair of free throws to give the Wildcats a 54-33 lead with 2:10 left.
