EVANSTON, Ill. - The following quotes were taken following Wednesday night's men's basketball game at Northwestern, won by the Wildcats, 69-60.
Wisconsin Head Coach Bo Ryan
On his team's performance...
"We were trying to make it hard for them to guard us. I liked our comeback. It was a lot like our comeback at Michigan State. Those two missed one-and-ones killed us, because then we had to foul."
On sophomore guard Freddie Owens...
"I think he found himself open. Freddie moves well without the ball. He has a quick release. We kicked it to him a couple of times, we made a few good reads on exchanges."
On Owens' play down the stretch...
"He didn't force things. He could have taken a couple more shots. The reason he shot such a high percentage was because those were his shots. Later they helped out on him, so he gave it up and others had to hit some shots."
On using a four-guard lineup...
"That's something we've done before. We were trying to guard the cuts and attack the gaps. We wanted guys who could get to a spot quicker. (Northwestern) was small, too."
Northwestern Head Coach Bill Carmody
On his team's performance...
"Both teams played good defense. In the beginning I don't know if it was bad offense or good defense, but both teams settled down after about 8 minutes. It's good to win at home."
On free throw shooting...
"We made our foul shots tonight-22 of 27 may be a little inflated because they fouled a lot at the end. We hit ours and they didn't always hit theirs."
On key plays in the game...
"Winston Blake hit a big three at the top when Owens was wiping us up. That quieted them down a bit."
"Jitim Young had that little tip dunk. That was nice, but I was happy with him because he got seven rebounds and four assists."
On Tavaras Hardy's three-point shooting...
"He has a nice-looking shot. He practices it a lot, and we tell him to take it."
On the prospect of postseason play...
"I'm thinking about that Columbus trip right now. We're only halfway through the Big Ten season, it's too early to think about that."
