Men's Tennis Routs Michigan State, 7-0

EVANSTON, Ill. - The No. 30 Northwestern men's tennis team swept Michigan State, 7-0, Sunday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center. The win moves the Wildcats to 6-0 on the season (2-0 Big Ten), marking the team's best start since the 1989-90 season when the `Cats began with nine wins and went on to capture the Big Ten championship.
Several Wildcat players continued their hot play of late. Jamie Sahara (Santa Maria, Calif./St. Joseph) capped off an unblemished weekend by defeating Jimmy McGuire (6-3, 6-1). Joost Hol (Newport Beach, Calif./Foothill) prevailed in three sets over Chris Mitchell (4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5)). Senior captain Brad Erickson (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) continued his recent stellar play with a victory over Eric Simonton (6-4, 0-1 ret. inj.). Hol and Erickson also teamed to secure the doubles point for the `Cats with a win over MSU's duo of McGuire and Mike Jonckheere (8-6). The two have been undefeated in both singles and doubles play over the last four meets.
