EVANSTON, Ill. - Despite 14 kills from senior Carmen Burbach (Columbus, Neb./Scotus Central Catholic) -- including the 1,000th of her career -- the Northwestern University women's volleyball team fell to Oregon, 3-1, at the Wahine Challenge in Honolulu, Hawaii.
After dropping the first game, 15-5, Northwestern gave the Ducks a battle in Game 2 before falling, 15-13. The Wildcats rallied to roll in Game 3, 15-5, but Oregon won a tight affair in the fourth game for a 16-14 victory and the match win.
The Wildcats fell to 0-6 on the season, while Oregon improved to 5-1.
Burbach became just the seventh Northwestern player in history to reach the 1,000-kill milestone with her fourth kill of the night. She added 12 digs to collect a double-double, and was helped by by Lindsay Pavlik (Laguna Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) who registered her third double-double of the season with 10 kills and 14 digs.
Another freshman, Erika Lange (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg), had six blocks and 15 kills.
Northwestern will conclude play at the Wahine Challenge Sunday, playing sixth-ranked Hawaii.
