CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -
Northwestern women's soccer lost to Illinois in conference action, 1-0, in Champaign, Ill. Illinois' Emily Brown put in the only goal of the game in the first half. In the 23rd minute, Brown beat a defender and fired the ball into the net.
The Wildcats flirted with gaining momentum in the second half but struggled to get out of Illini territory most of the game. Northwestern's best chance of tying the game came in the second half when Enyo Dzata (Eugene, Ore./South) sent a shot into the box only to be snatched by Illini's AnneMarie Hennes. Aileen Guiney (Naperville, Ill./Naperville) gave the game one last shot, but once again the Illini goalkeeper came up with a save. Erin Ekeberg (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) had four saves in the losing effort.
The Wildcats were outshot 21-9. This marked the third straight game they were shut out as their record falls to 2-6-1, 1-3 Big Ten.
