WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Wildcats played a scoreless first half against Purdue and looked to be headed for overtime Sunday afternoon, before Purdue's Courtney Coppedge took a ball off of a corner kick from Katie Redmond and headed it in from the penalty box with just 44 seconds left in the match. As a result, the Boilermakers escaped with a 1-0 win.
The 'Cats were outshot by the Boilermakers, 19-10, forcing Erin Ekeberg (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) to record an outstanding nine saves in the NU goal. Brooke Bell (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) led the Northwestern offense with three shots.
Purdue (6-2, 1-1 Big Ten) gained its fourth shutout of the season.
Northwestern (2-4-1, 1-1 Big Ten) will be back in action next Friday against Minnesota at Lakeside Field. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
