EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern men's golfer Luke Donald (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England/Royal Grammar School) won the Northeast Amateur in Rutherford, R.I. during the weekend. In the process, Donald tied PGA tour pro John Cook's tournament mark of 268 set back in 1979. Donald -- the 1999 NCAA champion who will be a senior at NU next year -- fired rounds of 66-69-64-69=268 on the par-69 course to defeat Alex Rocha (Mississippi State) by two strokes.

Donald's next tournament on American soil is the PGA's Western Open set for July 6-9. Among the participants will be Tiger Woods, the defending champion in this tournament who most recently roared to victory at the U.S. Open.
