EVANSTON, Ill. - Playing in the Great Northwest Shootout in Seattle, the Northwestern men's tennis team fell to 2-3 for the 2000 spring campaign with a loss to Washington, 6-1, in first-day action.

The Huskies swept all three doubles matches to gain the first point of the day, then clinched the victory by winning five of the six singles matches.

Northwestern's lone win came at No. 6, where Russell Bennett defeated Mark Woolley (7-6, 6-4). Bennett won the first-set tiebreaker, 7-5. The Wildcats nearly got a win at No. 3, as Jackie Jenkins extended UW's Ari Strasberg to a third-set tiebreaker before falling, 7-4.

Northwestern will meet Tulsa tomorrow afternoon in its second match of the weekend.
