EVANSTON, Ill. - After five straight one-goal losses, things only got tougher for the Northwestern women's soccer team Friday when Iowa came to town and escaped with a 3-1 win.
The loss dropped the Wildcats to 2-8 overall and 0-5 in the Big Ten. The Hawkeyes improved to 6-4 overall (2-3 Big Ten).
Iowa drew the advantage by netting two goals in the first half. Jenny Sturm converted a feed from Teesa Price in the 31st minute, then Sarah Lynch found the net with help from Julie Atkocaitis eight minutes later.
In the second half, Iowa provided more insurance when Laren Kriner scored. Northwestern could only answer once, as Kristen Palmer made good on a penalty kick in the 76th minute.
Despite the loss, Northwestern held the edge on the field, outshooting Iowa 18-11. Missy Wickart had nine saves for the Hawkeyes, while Erin Ekeberg had five stops for the Wildcats.
NU will be back at home on Sunday, hosting Illinois on Lakeside Field at 1 p.m.
