EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's soccer team lost another heartbreaker, falling in double overtime to Ohio State amidst brisk winds and rain in Columbus.
Christie Molitor put the Wildcats on the board with a goal in the 26th minute, as she took a pass from Katie Hertz and slid a shot past OSU goalkeeper Amber Barnes. However, less than one minute later, Lindsay Eckles of Ohio State nailed a crossed ball into the left side of the net for a Buckeye goal.
Emily Thorpe gave OSU its first lead of the game in the 54th minute, assisted by Katy Traeger. However, Northwestern answered with a goal in the 85th minute of play when Kase McCoy received a pass from Molitor and shot the ball past Barnes.
With just two minutes left in the second overtime, Shelly Besson fired a shot from 12 yards out in front of NU goalkeeper Susan McCreery that found the back of the goal for the win.
Northwestern will meet Michigan State next Friday on Lakeside Field as part of the Wildcats' "Women in Sport" weekend. Kickoff will be 2:30 p.m.
