Has a proven history of dropping big time at big meets, which he did again at the Big Ten Championships with a pair of career-best times in the backstroke events ... In the 200 back, first finished in a dead heat for 25th with a career-best 1:47.56, then lowered his career-best to 1:47.31 (6.51 seconds better than his seed) to win a swim-off for first alternate position ... After a scratch ahead of him, earned his first-career second swim at the Big Ten Championships, eventually placing 24th overall in the event ... Swam a career-best 50.50 in the 100 back at the conference meet to place 40th ... Also competed in the 200 free (56th) at the Big Ten Championships, cutting 3.16 seconds from his seed ... Showed his taper capabilities earlier in the year at Northwestern's own four-team TYR Invitational (11/16-11/18) ... 2011-12:Ranked third in the 200 back and fifth in the 100 back on Northwestern's top times list for the season ... Competed in the 200 back (35 th), 100 back (41st) and 200 free (62nd) at the Big Ten Championships ... Three times scored points in dual-meet events during the reguar season, finishing fourth in the 200 back against both Eastern Michigan (10/21) and Wisconsin (11/11) and fourth again in the 100 back against Lewis and Carthage College (1/7) ... Scored points in consolation final appearances at Northwestern's own five-team TYR Invitational (11/18-11/20) in the 50 back (10th), 200 back (10th) and 100 back (12th) ... Also qualified for a second swim in TYR Invite bonus final of the 200 free (19th).

Had an incredible debut Big Ten Championships, dropping massive amounts of time in all three of his events ... Cut 3.8 seconds off his seed to place 37th with a 53.19 in the 100 back ... Dropped 7.02 seconds from his seed to take 35th with a 1:52.88 in the 200 back ... Sliced 4.75 seconds from his seed to come in 56th with a 1:43.23 in the 200 free ... At the six-team TYR Invitational in November, made the consolation final of the 200 back to place 14th overall in the event ... Best dual meet finish of the year was a fifth-place effort in the 200 free against UIC (11/14) and a fifth-place swim in the 500 free versus Carthage and Lewis (1/16).
