Pat Baldwin, one of the top players in Northwestern history, is in his fourth season on the coaching staff at his alma mater.
A 1994 graduate of Northwestern, Baldwin returned to Evanston after serving two years as an assistant coach at Missouri State.
Baldwin helped tutor point guard Bryant McIntosh on his way to earning Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors in 2015. McIntosh finished his first year at NU with a school freshman-record 150 assists and he was one of only four major conference freshmen to average at least 11.0 points and 4.5 assists per game.
As a sophomore, McIntosh blew away the school record by posting 213 assists while ranking ninth nationally with an average of 6.7 per game en route to earning honorable mention All-Big Ten recognition.
Tre Demps also earned a pair of honorable mention All-Big Ten accolades during his NU career while finishing 11th in school history with 1,518 points under Baldwin’s guidance.
During his time at Missouri State, Baldwin recuited Marcus Marshall, the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year.
Prior to spending two seasons on Paul Lusk’s staff at Missouri State, Baldwin spent seven seasons at Loyola Chicago. He was an assistant coach for six seasons before being promoted to the role of associate head coach for the 2010-11 campaign.
While with the Ramblers, Baldwin coached Blake Schilb to first-team All-Horizon League honors three straight seasons while he also picked up National Association of Basketball Coaches First Team All-District 11 and Mid-Major All-America recognition. Schilb finished his career as the only Rambler to ever accumulate over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 400 assists.
Baldwin’s work with guard J.R. Blount paid dividends as he ended his career as one of only five players in school history to accumulate over 1,500 points and 300 assists.
Baldwin was a standout player for Northwestern from 1990-94. He ranks first in school history with 272 career steals, second all-time with 452 assists and 20th with 1,189 points. His 90 steals as a freshman in 1990-91 are the school single-season record, while his 154 assists as a senior in 1993-94 rank third in school history.
Baldwin is the Northwestern single-game leader with 14 assists against Youngstown State on Dec. 5, 1992 and nine steals vs. Oakland Nov. 27, 1990. He posted seven or more steals in a game six times during his career and was named the 1993-94 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
Following his time at NU, Baldwin spent three years as a business analyst at Dean Foods in Rosemont, Illinois, before playing professional basketball in Bosnia and Croatia from 1999-2001.
The Leavenworth, Kansas, native got his coaching start at Division II Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri, during the 2001-02 season. From there, he coached for two years at UW-Green Bay before joining the Loyola staff.
Pat and his wife, Shawn (nee Karey—a former Northwestern volleyball player), have four children: Patrick, Tatum, Brooke and Claire.
