Matthew Flannery joined the Northwestern sports performance department as a graduate assistant in the summer of 2012. He was promoted to assistant director of sports performance in September 2014 and is entering his ninth season with the Wildcats. 

Flannery assists the Director of Football performance, working primarily with the program's running backs, linebackers and superbacks. He is responsible for the daily operation of GPS monitoring systems. 

Flannery is originally from Richmond, Mich., and earned his bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University in health education. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and is a certified USA Weightlifting Level One Sports Performance Coach.

Prior to coming to Northwestern, Flannery spent time working as a football performance intern at Ohio State. Before his time at OSU, he was a professional intern for the strength and conditioning department at Wayne State University.

Flannery resides in Evanston with his wife Kacie.
