Financial Aid

NCAA, institutional, and Federal regulations limit the amount and types of financial aid which you are permitted to receive as a student-athlete. Accepting impermissible financial aid can render you ineligible to practice or compete and can lead to serious consequences for your team and the institution. Please reach out to the Athletics Compliance Office if you are having any financial issues - they will point you to the correct resource, whether that is in athletics or in the university's Financial Aid Office.

Outside Scholarships -- While it is generally permissible for student-athletes to accept outside scholarships, the Athletics Compliance Office must verify that:

  • The recipient's choice of institutions is not restricted by the donor of the aid;
  • There is no direct connection between the donor and Northwestern University; and
  • The funds are not provided by an outside sports team or organization that conducts a competitive sports program to a student-athlete who is or has been a member of that team or organization.
