Ernest J. "Pug" Rentner (Football, 1930-32)

Nicknamed "Pug," Rentner's tremendous speed, passing and kicking skills sparked NU's successive championship teams in 1930 and 31. He was named to the All-America team in 1931, and was voted Northwestern's Most Valuable Player in 1932.

Rentner went on to play with the Boston Redskins and Chicago Bears, playing halfback and quarterback, and he was inducted posthumously to the National Football Foundation's Hall of Fame in 1979.
