3/1/2026 2:48:00 PM | Baseball

ATLANTA – No. 5 Georgia Tech completed the weekend sweep over Northwestern with a 14-6 win on Sunday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium.

OF Jackson Freeman continued his strong start to the season with his second four-hit game of 2026, going 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored in the loss.

INF Ryan Zuckerman hit three homers for Georgia Tech, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and four runs.

The Wildcats (5-5) jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the top of the first. After a pair of HBPs and a base hit loaded the bases, INF Noah Ruiz drove in OF Jack Lausch and INF Ryan Kucherak with a two-run single. Two batters later, INF Owen McElfatrick doubled home OF Jackson Freeman and Ruiz to stretch NU's early advantage to four runs.
Georgia Tech (11-1) responded immediately, cutting the lead in half with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first. The Yellow Jackets took the lead in the fourth with three runs on three hits and one error to go ahead, 5-4.

RHP Garrett Shearer surrendered two runs on three hits and one walk, striking out three in 2.1 innings pitched for the 'Cats.

In the top of the fifth, Kucherak worked a leadoff walk and came around to score on an RBI groundout by INF Nick Barron, knotting the game up at five.

Zuckerman answered in the bottom half of the fifth with a solo homer, his second of the day, to put the Jackets back in front, 6-5.

Georgia Tech extended its lead with three runs in the seventh and five in the eighth to take a 14-5 advantage into the ninth.

In the ninth, Barron roped a single into center field, scoring Kucherak for his second RBI of the day, giving the Acton, Mass., native his second-career multi-RBI game.

RHP Matt Kouser (1-2) surrendered four runs, two earned, on five hits and one walk in 3.2 innings of action.

RHP Justin Shadek (1-0) was stellar in relief for the Yellow Jackets, conceding just one run on three hits and two walks in 4.0 innings, punching out seven in the win.

Northwestern will wrap up its early-season non-conference swing at the Cambria Classic from March 6-8. The Wildcats will take on South Dakota State (March 6), Omaha (March 7) and UNLV (March 8) at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
