STONY BROOK, N.Y. — After a four-game homestand, No. 4 Northwestern will hit the road to take on No. 18 Stony Brook at LaValle Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 28. Opening draw from Long Island is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. CT on FloCollege.
This marks the first time Combe Family Head Lacrosse Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller's squad has returned to LaValle Stadium — the site of its 2012 NCAA Championship win — since the 2017 season.
The Wildcats (4-1, 0-0 Big Ten) have won their past three games by a combined score of 68-16. NU has rattled off back-to-back 25-goal outings, its second most prolific two-game scoring stretch in program history.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
Senior attacker Madison Taylor leads the nation with 26 goals in five games this season. She is second in the NCAA in points (38) and points per game (7.6). Taylor's 12 assists rank third in the Big Ten. With 382 career points, Taylor ranks No. 1 among all active NCAA Division I players in scoring.
Sophomore attacker Aditi Foster ranks third in the conference in goals (17). She has already surpassed her 2025 total of 12 tallies.
Graduate student goalkeeper Jenika Cuocco ranks second in the Big Ten in saves (42), save percentage (.560) and goals against average (8.47). The three-time CAA Goalkeeper of the Year is one of three Wildcats on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, alongside Taylor and senior attacker Maddie Epke.
Redshirt sophomore midfielder Madison Smith averages 7.60 draw controls per game, a figure that ranks No. 2 in the Big Ten. Northwestern ranks No. 2 in the NCAA in draw controls per game (19.8) and No. 3 in draw control percentage (.683).
The Wildcats lead the Big Ten in scoring offense (19.4 GPG), scoring defense (7.6 GPG), scoring margin (11.8 GPG) and draw control percentage (.683).
LAST TIME OUT
Taylor and Foster combined for 16 points as Northwestern earned a decisive 25-7 win over Marquette on Feb. 20 inside Ryan Fieldhouse.
Foster recorded a career-high seven points, scoring five goals and dishing out a pair of assists. Graduate student attacker Olivia Adamson turned in a season-high six points (four goals, two assists).
Junior attacker Taylor Lapointe and first-year attacker Gabriella McCollester each tallied two goals. Senior attacker Maddie Epke, redshirt first-year midfielder Annabelle Mahoney and first-year midfielders Kate Ratanaproeksa, Sienna Connolly and Reese Hansen all added a goal.
The NU attack proved a menacing first line of defense on Friday night, holding Marquette to a 13-for-23 rate on clears.
SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES
Winners of 10 of the past 11 CAA Tournament titles under head coach Joe Spallina, the Seawolves have forged one of the nation's most consistent squads on Long Island. Stony Brook has experienced a strong start to its 2026 campaign, winning its first three games. Last time out, Spallina's group fended off No. 15 Colorado to earn a 9-7 victory.
The Seawolves boast a multifaceted scoring attack, led by midfielder Isabella Caporuscio's team-high 12 points. Midfielder Keira Martin is Stony Brook's top feeder, with six assists in three games. Reese Hjertaas, a transfer from Limestone University, has tallied seven goals and an assist in her first three games with the Seawolves.
Stony Brook has excelled at forcing its opponents into miscues this season. The Seawolves' opponents have amassed 55 turnovers in three games. Caporuscio and defender Hailey Huebner have each recorded a team-high eight caused turnovers.
Goalkeeper Ava Yancey backstops a stout defensive unit. She has tallied 18 saves on a .529 save percentage and averages 5.61 goals allowed per game. Stony Brook has held opponents to a .361 shot percentage this season.
