2/13/2026 6:57:00 PM | Men's Tennis
EVANSTON, Ill. — Winning seven straight matches, Northwestern men's tennis looks to continue the streak, as it returns to Combe Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 14, to host a doubleheader. The Wildcats (7-2) will welcome Marquette at 10 a.m. CT and Illinois State at 4 p.m. CT.
NU's seven-match win streak is its best since winning eight straight from March 26-April 16, 2023. Two Northwestern victories this weekend would extend the winning streak to nine, the program's longest since opening the 2017 dual season with nine straight victories. The team's 7-2 start is its best opening to a dual season since 2022.
This past weekend, Northwestern went on the road and defeated Memphis, 4-2, for its second nonconference road win of the season. The Wildcats captured the doubles point after both the pairings of junior Greyson Casey and sophomore Carter Pate (No. 1) and junior Cyrus Mahjoob and junior Ethan Schiffman (No. 2) won in tiebreaker upsets. At No. 4 singles, Schiffman tabbed a 6-4, 6-2 victory, while first-year Cooper Han, at No. 6, gave Northwestern its third point with his 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) triumph. At No. 1 singles, Pate clinched the match after saving multiple match points with a 7-6 (11-9), 3-6, 7-5 result.
The Wildcats have won the doubles point in each of their last seven matches.
Pate, who has competed at both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions, leads the team with seven singles victories (7-2). Teaming up with Casey at the No. 1 doubles slot, the duo is undefeated at 6-0 this season. Pate's 14 total wins between singles and doubles are the most on the team.
Behind Pate, Schiffman has tallied 12 wins with a 6-1 singles record, playing five of his last seven matches at the No. 4 slot. He has a 6-0 doubles record, while he and Mahjoob have logged a 4-0 doubles record together.
Northwestern will play the Golden Eagles (1-7) for the second consecutive season, after the Wildcats recorded a 7-0 sweep last season. NU is 10-0 all-time against Marquette, with every match prior to last season's tilt coming in the 1980s. The Golden Eagles are headlined by Blake Roegner, a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection last season.
The Wildcats are set to face the Redbirds (3-3) for the fifth time in seven seasons, with Northwestern winning each of the previous four meetings. Last season, the Wildcats registered a 7-0 victory. Illinois State is highlighted by Christian Capacci, an All Summit League Honorable Mention last season.
Marquette hosted the Redbirds on Wednesday, Feb. 11, and registered a 4-2 victory.
The Wildcats will continue nonconference play next weekend with a trip to South Bend, Ind., to face Notre Dame on Friday, Feb. 20, at 6:30 p.m. CT before returning to Combe Tennis Center to square off with Denver on Sunday, Feb. 22, at noon CT.
