Northwestern Falls at No. 7 Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Northwestern came up short in a 3-0 loss at No. 7 Ohio State on Saturday evening at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Saturday’s contest marked Northwestern’s (5-5-3, 3-2-1 Big Ten) fourth setback against an opponent ranked inside the top 15 of the United Soccer Coaches Poll.

Ohio State (9-1-1, 4-1-0 Big Ten) improved to 8-0 at home on the season with the win. The Buckeyes outshot the Wildcats 14-6, including a 9-3 edge in shots on goal.

OSU grabbed an early lead in the fifth minute on a goal by senior defender/midfielder Ava Bramblett, assisted by senior forward/midfielder Amanda Schlueter. The Buckeyes added another in the 26th minute when Schlueter doubled the lead, with sophomore forward Callie Tumilty notching the helper. Schlueter bagged a brace to cap off the scoring in the 87th minute, assisted by senior midfielder Berkley Mape.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nyamma Nelson collected a season-high six saves in the contest.

Northwestern continues its three-game road swing on Thursday, Oct. 7, when it takes on Rutgers. Kickoff from Yurcak Field is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on B1G+.
