Pereira, Defense Help ‘Cats Secure Road Result At No. 4 Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (October 23, 2026) – Led by another outstanding showing by its defensive unit, Northwestern (5-5-4, 2-3-3 B1G) secured its second consecutive result against a top-10 opponent this evening, battling No. 4 Indiana (12-1-3, 5-1-2 B1G) to a 0-0 draw at Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington, Ind.

How It Happened
Fresh off being named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week this past Tuesday, Josue Pfrommer came up with a key intervention just past the quarter-hour mark, as he got a foot to Charlie Heuer’s close-range look to deny the Hoosiers.

After seeing Aaron O’Reilly register Northwestern’s first shot of the night in the 19th minute, Peter Riesz came within inches of giving the ‘Cats the lead five minutes later, unleashing a right-footed screamer that rang off Indiana goalkeeper Michal Mroz’s near post.  The senior took aim again in the 37th minute, hoping to catch Mroz out of goal with an attempt from midfield that strayed off target.

Northwestern closed the first half with a flurry, with both Ethan Nakolo and Evrit Fisher seeing their efforts blocked as the visitors took momentum into the locker room in a scoreless deadlock.

Following an opening 45 minutes in which he was not forced into a save, Dominic Pereira found himself under fire early in the second stanza.  Oliver Moller-Jensen had designs of putting the hosts on top in the 50th minute, directing his volley off a corner towards the near post, but Pereira parried his attempt away to keep the two teams deadlocked.

Pereira came up big again following the hour mark.  After a Wildcat foul set Indiana up with a dangerous free kick, Nick McHenry took aim at goal from 25 yards.  Pereira was up to the task again, making a diving stop to turn away the Hoosiers.

With time ticking away, Northwestern looked to strike on the counterattack, as Nakolo forced a save out of Mroz in the 84th minute.  A corner kick in the closing minutes ultimately saw Fisher send a right-footed blast high of goal in what would prove to be the Wildcats’ final attempt of the evening.
