Northwestern Returns to Dual Action, Hosts Notre Dame

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern swimming and diving returns to action on Friday afternoon, taking on Notre Dame at 2 p.m. CT at the Norris Aquatics Center.

The Wildcats are competing for the first time in two weeks, following road losses to heavyweights Indiana and Texas at a tri-meet in Bloomington on Oct. 9. That meet was in short course meters (SCM) — Northwestern will return to the traditional short course yards (SCY) format of NCAA swimming in its dual meet against the Fighting Irish.

Northwestern’s most recent dual meet against the Fighting Irish came on Oct. 24, 2025. Taking place in South Bend, Ind., both teams lost by narrow margins, with the men falling 158.5-141.5 and the women losing 151-149.

Friday’s NU-ND dual meet will be livestreamed on the official Northwestern Athletics YouTube channel.

Scouting the Fighting Irish
Notre Dame, led by second-year head coach Michael Norment, received votes in September’s College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) Top 25 Dual Meet poll on the men’s side.

The Fighting Irish kicked off their 2026-27 season falling to Wisconsin, which is ranked No. 22 on the men’s side and No. 14 on the women’s side, last week. Notre Dame’s men fell 160-140, while the women’s meet was more lopsided with a 202-95 score.

ND’s men’s squad is led by returning individual NCAA championships scorers like fifth years Marcus Reyes-Gentry and Daniel Knapp. Fifth-year Tommy Janton and junior Shane Eckler are also swimmers to watch — the former qualified for the 2025 U.S. World Championships team, while the latter won two individual events during ND’s meet at Wisconsin and is also an NCAAs qualifier.

Junior Carli Cronk is Notre Dame’s only returning individual NCAA scorer on the women’s side. She and junior Hollie Widdows were the only two individual women’s event winners for the Irish in Madison. Widdows, who raced on the 400 Free Relay at NCAAs last year, won both the 100 Free and 100 Fly against Wisconsin.

During the 2025-26 season, Notre Dame finished 37th at the NCAA Men’s Championships and 33rd at the women’s meet, with the men returning from a one-year competition suspension. It also took ninth and 11th place finishes at the ACC Championships on the men’s and women’s sides, respectively.

Northwestern Athletes to Watch
Junior Oli Kós was the only individual event winner against Indiana and Texas. He took the 200 Back in a personal best time of 1:53.77, taking down Indiana’s Owen McDonald and Texas’s Will Modglin by 0.19 seconds for the top spot.

Other top-three finishes came from first-year Flawia Kamzol, junior Kyle Ly and junior Stuart Seymour. All three athletes took third — Seymour in the 100 Back (50.96), Ly in the one-meter diving event (321.00) and Kamzol in the 100 Fly (58.17).

CSCAA Poll Watch: The Northwestern men’s team is ranked No. 16 in September’s edition of the CSCAA Dual Meet Top 25.
