EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern women’s tennis has added former Wildcat and two-time ITA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year Hannah McColgan as an assistant coach ahead of the 2026-27 season, the program announced on Monday. McColgan returns to Northwestern after spending four seasons playing for Head Coach Claire Pollard from 2018 through 2022.

Having Hannah back as a Wildcat is truly fantastic! She’s organized, proactive, and already making an incredible impact. The experience she gained outside the program shines through in the knowledge, confidence, and energy she brings to her coaching role. Most importantly, her deep connection to and love for the Wildcats are evident in everything she does. She will make a meaningful and lasting contribution to the program that means so much to her. Go ‘Cats!

During her playing career, McColgan helped guide the Wildcats to three NCAA Tournaments, excluding only the shortened 2019-20 season, when no postseason was held. A doubles specialist, she finished her career at Northwestern with 61 doubles victories over four years. She climbed as high as No. 27 in the ITA doubles rankings and helped the ‘Cats ascend to the No. 4 spot in the team rankings during her career. After graduating from NU, McColgan spent her final season as a Maryland Terrapin, where she picked up 27 total wins.

McColgan’s coaching career began in July 2023, when she joined UMass’ women’s tennis staff as an assistant coach. In her first season with the Minutewomen, McColgan helped capture the program’s third-ever Atlantic 10 (A10) conference crown, securing a trip to the NCAA Championships. She guided numerous players to conference and regional honors, including Danielle Hack, who was named the A10 Most Outstanding Performer of the Year. The team finished the year ranked sixth in the ITA New England Regional Rankings, a program record, and Hack set a UMass record by finishing No. 7 in the Regional Singles Rankings. At the conclusion of the campaign, McColgan was named the ITA New England Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

McColgan picked up her second ITA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year award last spring after shepherding UMass to a Mid-American Conference (MAC) Regular-Season Championship in the program’s inaugural season in the conference. Once again, McColgan helped an athlete to the conference’s highest honor, this time as Ella Faessler earned MAC Player of the Year. During McColgan’s tenure in Amherst, the Minutewomen played to a 43-20 overall record, including an 8-1 performance in the A10 and a 7-1 mark in the MAC.

A native of Stockport, Great Britain, McColgan graduated from Northwestern in 2022 with her bachelor's degree in Learning and Organizational Change and a minor in Business Institutions. She earned her master's degree in Management in May 2023 from Maryland.

I'm thrilled to be back at Northwestern, a place that shaped me as a player and means so much to me. To now join the coaching staff and work with and learn from Claire and Ellyse is something I'm incredibly grateful for. I'm eager to help the program continue to strive toward its goals. Go 'Cats!
