SEATTLE, Wash. (October 10, 2026) – No. 14 Washington (7-3-2, 4-1-1 B1G) scored twice late in the second half to fend off Northwestern’s (5-5-1, 2-3 B1G) upset bid, defeating the Wildcats by a final count of 2-1 this evening at Husky Soccer Stadium in Seattle, Wash.

How It Happened
Peter Riesz took aim at goal less than seven minutes in, sending his free kick from 25 yards out narrowly over the crossbar.

Following a Washington handball inside the 18-yard box on a Bryant Mayer header, Northwestern was awarded a penalty kick in the 17th minute.  Aaron O’Reilly calmly slotted home from the spot, staking the ‘Cats to a 1-0 lead against the reigning national champions.

Zach Ramsey, who entered the night as the nation’s leading scorer, made a bid to equalize on a free kick of his own in the 23rd minute, but Dominic Pereira was up to the task in goal, collecting Ramsey’s rolling attempt as Northwestern took a one-goal edge into halftime.

Josue Pfrommer looked to double the Wildcats’ lead less than eight minutes into the second half, with his headed effort forcing a leaping save out of Washington goalkeeper Noah Newman.  Pereira came up with a big stop of his own less than five minutes later when he dove to deny Alex Hall at his near post.

The hosts broke through in the 81st minute, as Osato Enabulele directed a Ramsey corner kick into the back of the net to pull Washington level, 1-1.  Ramsey found himself back in the mix only 36 seconds later, converting from the spot following a video review to seal a 2-1 win for the Huskies.

 Looking At The Numbers
- O’Reilly netted his second goal of the season and seventh career tally during the first half.
- Northwestern’s 12 shots, four of which came on goal, are tied for the most by a Washington opponent during Big Ten Conference play. The Huskies entered the night allowing only seven shots per game.
- Pereira was credited with three saves in goal.
