Thomas leads Northwestern with 19 points
LINCOLN, Neb. (January 28, 2026) – Grace Sullivan surpassed 1,000 points for her collegiate career as Northwestern (8-13, 2-8 B1G) dropped an 89-73 decision to Nebraska (16-5, 5-5 B1G) this evening inside Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb.
How It Happened
Sullivan got the 'Cats on the board 42 seconds in, connecting on a turnaround jumper to knot the score up at 2-2. The senior forward went on to join the 1,000-point club just over three minutes later, knocking down a pair of attempts at the charity stripe to cut Nebraska's lead to 10-8. A strong take from Tayla Thomas again brought the 'Cats back within two, 12-10, but Nebraska closed the frame with a flurry, knocking down threes on their last two possessions of the frame to open up a 28-17 advantage.
After seeing the hosts stretch the gap to 36-18, a Casey Harter three sparked a 7-0 Northwestern run, a spurt capped off by a Sullivan bucket that trimmed the Cornhuskers' lead to 36-25 at the 5:49 mark of the second quarter. Northwestern struggled to make a greater dent in its deficit as the half wore on, as a Thomas putback in the closing seconds sent the 'Cats to the locker room trailing, 47-36.
Xamiya Walton wasted no time in going on the attack coming out of the intermission, drilling a three only 40 seconds in to bring Northwestern back within single digits, 47-39. Caroline Lau looked to keep the 'Cats within striking distance, as back-to-back scores from the senior guard cut the Nebraska lead to 59-49 with 4:24 remaining in the frame.
Following a Sullivan bucket that brought the margin to nine, 61-52, Nebraska caught fire from distance, with two Logan Nissley treys stretching the gap to 67-53. Northwestern would get no closer than 12 the rest of the night, as the Cornhuskers picked up their 12th home win of the season.
