‘Cats Drop Road Contest At Marquette, 3-1

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (September 5, 2026) – Italo Addimandi scored his second goal of the season as Northwestern (2-2-1) fell to Marquette (3-1-1) by a final score of 3-1 this afternoon at Valley Fields in Milwaukee, Wis.

How It Happened
Northwestern found itself on the front foot for the majority of the opening 45 minutes, dominating possession for large stretches of play.  Evrit Fisher sent his effort from 20 yards out wide of goal in the sixth minute.  Andrew Johnson worked his way into space at the edge of the box in the 28^th minute, unleashing a left-footed rocket that narrowly cleared the crossbar.

After being held without a shot for well past the opening half hour of play, Marquette cashed in for the afternoon’s opening goal in the 34^th minute, with Mads Konrad Horgøien scoring from close range to put the hosts on top, 1-0.  Tre Barrett looked to have his sights set on an equalizer in the closing stages of the first half, only to see his free kick stray wide of the near post as Marquette took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Golden Eagles doubled their lead just 60 seconds after the restart, as Hudson Torrez deposited a deflection into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Addimandi cut the Marquette lead in half just past the hour mark.  Andrew Millar sent an arching feed towards the back post that connected with Addimandi, who, after having his initial effort saved, headed home to pull the ‘Cats within one, 2-1.

Northwestern continued to heap on pressure after getting on the board.  Millar had a golden opportunity to pull Northwestern level in the 66^th minute, but saw his one-timer from the edge of the six-yard box parried away by Marquette goalkeeper Cameron Simpson.

Tomiwa Adewumi dealt a blow to Northwestern’s comeback hopes in the 83^rd minute, tucking his shot inside the far post to give the Golden Eagles a 3-1 lead that they would not relinquish.

 Looking At The Numbers
- Addimandi, who led the Wildcats with five shots, scored his fourth career goal.
- Northwestern closed the afternoon with a 13-4 advantage in shots and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
       - Northwestern has outshot its opponent in four of five games this season.
- Making his second start with the ‘Cats, Gino Cervoni registered three saves in goal.
