Northwestern Extends Shutout Streak in Scoreless Draw against Loyola Chicago

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern picked up its second straight clean sheet and third of the season in a scoreless draw against Loyola Chicago at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium on Thursday night.

Northwestern (2-2-2) dominated possession, outshooting LU 19-3, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Loyola’s (2-2-1) three shots match their season low, set against No. 5 Michigan State and Iowa.

Nyamma Nelson

Sophomore goalkeeper Nyamma Nelson collected NU’s second straight clean sheet and her second shutout of the season. Nelson’s 12 career clean sheets rank fourth-most in program history as only a sophomore.

The Wildcats controlled much of the first half, outshooting the Ramblers 5-1, but were unable to put the pieces together in the final third. 

The ‘Cats continued to search for the opener in the second half, registering 14 shots, but were unable to break through. Rambler goalkeeper Allison Deardorff collected eight saves in the contest.

Northwestern closes out non-conference play on Sunday with a road test at No. 10 Tennessee. Kickoff from Regal Soccer Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn., is set for 1 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
