Wildcats Take Fourth Place at Windon Memorial Classic

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Northwestern men’s golf team wrapped up its home stay at Onwentsia Club on Tuesday, finishing the Windon Memorial Classic in fourth place.

The Wildcats opened the week with back-to-back rounds of 283 before closing out with a 1-under score of 279, the team’s lowest round of the week, for a 54-hole total of 845 (283-283-279).

Kansas claimed the team title with a combined score of 836 (276-280-280), with Cal Poly’s Frederick Egnatios and UC Davis’ Zhenxian Zhang each sharing medalist honors.

Pacing the ‘Cats for his highest career finish was first-year Kuan Zhou, who concluded the tournament at 5 under par. After opening with a round of 71, Zhou fired rounds of 68 and 66 in his following two rounds, carding three birdies and an eagle in his final round to finish the week in third.

Matching Zhou’s low score was fellow first-year Carter Gaede, who recorded three birdies and an eagle in his opening round for a 4-under 66, his lowest round of the season. Gaede concluded the tournament at 1 over, placing in a share of 21^st for his first career top-25 finish.

Rowan Sullivan placed in 40^th after carding a 2-under 68 in his second round, while Jeremy Chen placed two strokes behind him in 48^th. Monty Holcombe rounded out the starting lineup, placing in a share of 64^th for the week.

Northwestern sent four individuals to compete at the Windon Memorial Classic, with sophomore Isaac Lee pacing the ‘Cats with a 1-under 69 in his final round to place in 21^st. Mark Gazi finished the week tied for 55^th, while Archie Finnie and Carl Möller finished in 78^th and 87^th, respectively.
