Nelson Named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. – After picking up a pair of shutouts in wins over Oregon and Indiana, sophomore goalkeeper Nyamma Nelson has been named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week.

The award marks Nelson’s third weekly honor from the conference, after she was named Goalkeeper of the Week on Aug. 19, 2025, and Freshman of the Week on Sep. 9, 2025. Nelson is the first Wildcat goalkeeper to collect multiple Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week honors since Mackenzie Wood (2018-21).

Nelson’s two clean sheets brought her total on the season to five and her career total to 15. Her 15 career shutouts rank fourth in program history and are the second-most by a Wildcat underclassman, trailing only Lauren Clem’s 20.

The West Linn, Ore., product collected five saves in NU’s 1-0 win over Oregon on Thursday, Sep. 24. In Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Indiana, she recorded a season-high six saves. NU’s two wins extended its unbeaten stretch in home Big Ten games to seven (6-0-1), dating back to Oct. 5, 2025.

Nelson and the Wildcats will travel to Columbus to face No. 7 Ohio State on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. CT on B1G+.
