‘Cats Win Three Titles, Put 19 On Podium At Remenyik ROC/RJCC

EVANSTON, Ill. (September 28, 2026) – Northwestern fencing kicked off its 2026-27 season at a familiar site this past weekend, hosting the Remenyik ROC/RJCC inside Ryan Fieldhouse.  The Wildcats enjoyed a banner two days, bringing home titles in all three weapons en route to putting a combined 19 competitors on the podium.

Yukari Takamizawa led the way for the ‘Cats in the Division I Women’s Foil.  Takamizawa, who made a second straight trip to the NCAA Championships last season, blitzed through pool action, going a perfect 6-0, ahead of five straight wins in direct elimination to secure her spot atop the podium.

Takamizawa was joined in the top eight of the weapon by Bridgette Ouyang and Karina Vasile, who placed third and fifth, respectively.

Competing in the junior section of the weapon, Anice Orvañanos impressed, posting five pool victories before picking up two wins in the tableau on the way to placing seventh overall.

Making her Wildcat debut, Ana Beckman dazzled in epee.  Entering direct elimination as the No. 6 seed in the Division I section, Beckman knocked off a pair of higher-seeded foes on her way to winning the event title.

Northwestern was well-represented on the podium in the weapon, with Angelica Xiong (2^nd) and Hailin Chen (3^rd) rounding out the top three, while Michaela Joyce took fifth.

Beckman added another podium finish to her ledger in the Junior Women’s Epee, securing a runner-up finish as part of another strong showing by the ‘Cats that saw Sophia Elston (T-3^rd), Natasha Lee (T-3^rd), and Angelica Xiong (5^th) all land inside the top eight.

Jaslene Lim turned in an outstanding showing of her own in the Division I Women’s Sabre.  Lim, who matched Beckman by winning five pool tilts, stormed through the tableau as the No. 7 seed, prevailing in five straight matchups to finish first overall.

Lim led a group of four ‘Cats on the podium in the weapon, a quartet that also included 2025-26 Second Team All-American Elaine Lu (3^rd), Sophia Schiminovich (5^th), and Nisha Hild (6^th).

Lu, Schiminovich, and Lim also represented Northwestern in the Junior Women’s Sabre.  Lu posted a runner-up showing, while Schiminovich (3^rd) and Lim (6^th) joined her on the podium.
