Chen’s Career Low Paces Wildcats at OFCC Fighting Illini Invitational Finale

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Led by a career-low round from senior Jeremy Chen, the Northwestern men’s golf team posted its best round of the week to close out the Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational.

The Wildcats improved across each round, opening the event with a 3-under 277 in the first round. Following a 6-under 274 in the second round, the ‘Cats fired an 8-under 272 to close out the event in 12th place at 17 under as a team.

Arizona claimed the team title at 40 under, while four individuals tied for medalist honors.

After rounds of 70 and 69 to begin the week, Chen carded a bogey-free 5-under 65 to set a career-low mark in his final round. The round propelled the senior from Taipei City, Taiwan, to a 54-hole score of 6 under, finishing his week in a share of 23rd.

Jeremy Chen carded five birdies with no bogeys in his final round to fire a career-low 65.

Finishing two strokes behind Chen was Carter Gaede, with the first-year breaking par in three straight rounds to finish in 36th at 4 under. One back of Gaede was fellow first-year Kuan Zhou, who set his low mark with a 4-under 66 in his opening round.

Rounding out the lineup at 3 over was the pair of Isaac Lee and Monty Holcombe, with the latter carding a 2-under 68 in both his second and third rounds.
