DAVIS, Calif. -Â Behind two fourth-quarter goals, the No. 1 Northwestern field hockey team rallied for a 2-0 road victory against the No. 18 Cal Golden Bears. The Wildcats (8-0, 0-0 Big Ten) found the back of the cage in the 48th minute, as senior back Kerry McCormick notched her first goal at NU.
Ilse Tromp added to the tally in the 53rd minute to secure the 'Cats' victory and fourth ranked win of the season.
Though scoreless through the first three quarters, NU fired off 23 shots while Juliana Boon held down the 'Cats' cage, posting five total saves.
Tromp led Northwestern's offense with three points (one goal, one assist), while Olivia Bent-Cole and Ashley Sessa also contributed assists.
NU improved to 13-4-1 all-time against Cal.
The 'Cats look to sweep their California trip with a win on Sunday, as they face UC Davis on Sept. 20, slated for 1 p.m. CT.
