Wildcats Head to Twin Cities for Sunday Showdown

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern continues its first road swing of Big Ten play when it treks to Minnesota for a Sunday afternoon matchup in St. Paul. Kickoff from Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium is set for 1 p.m. CT on B1G+.

Last time out, NU (3-4-2, 1-1-0 Big Ten) fell 2-0 at No. 14 Wisconsin on Sunday, Sep. 13, its third road loss to a ranked opponent so far in 2026. The Badgers scored from set pieces in the 13th and 68th minutes to hand the Wildcats their first Big Ten loss of the season and snap their five-game unbeaten run in conference play.

First-year Camryn Freeman made her collegiate debut in Madison, logging 31 minutes and becoming the sixth first-year to feature for the ‘Cats this season. All six field players in NU’s first-year class have appeared in a game this season, with defender/midfielder Naomi Lofthouse, midfielder Elle Phillips, defender Amber Weaver and defender/midfielder Gwen Zimmerman all earning starts.

Northwestern is unbeaten in its last three games (2-0-1) against Minnesota. The Golden Gophers lead the all-time series, 19-11-3. Sunday will mark the second straight meeting in St. Paul, with the two sides splitting the points in the last matchup, a 1-1 draw on Oct. 10, 2024.

Minnesota (5-2-1, 1-1-0 Big Ten) split its Big Ten opening weekend, defeating Iowa before falling at Penn State. Junior forward Davy Mokelke leads the Gophers with four goals on the season, while junior midfielder Hailee Christensen leads Minnesota with a trio of assists. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Martin has started every game in net for UM, posting a 0.63 goals against average to go with an .848 save percentage.
