'Cats Welcome Eleven Newcomers for 2026 Season

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern field hockey team has its complete roster for the 2026 season, announcing its full newcomer class of 11 Wildcats.

NU adds eight first-years, a sophomore and two fifth-years to the squad, hailing from five states and four countries. The new class brings in seven midfielders, two forwards and a pair of backs, each with valuable high school, club and national experience.

On the national stage, first-years Arnold, Moffett and Sack are current members of the U-18 USWNT. Each international arrival also competes on the global stage: Hofmeister (U18 Spanish National Team), Freedman (U21s Australian Junior Squad), Sexton (Ireland U16-U21s) and Martinez (U21, Senior National Team Uruguay).

The 'Cats' roster is rounded out by 16 returners from the 2025 season, including four NFHCA All-Americans (Ashley Sessa, Ilse Tromp, Juliana Boon (2nd) and Olivia Bent-Cole (3rd)) and five All-Big Ten selections.

After earning its second-straight NFHCA preseason ranking of No. 1, Northwestern begins its 2026 campaign on Friday, Aug. 28 at noon CT, hosting VCU at Lakeside Field. The Wildcats then take on Lafayette College at home on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. CT.

The season-opening weekend will feature Banner Day and Kids’ Day on Friday and Sunday, respectively, with free admission and giveaways. Both games will be streamed on B1G+.
