FORT WORTH, Texas – Northwestern took down No. 4 TCU 1-0 on Thursday night for its highest ranked road win in program history and first Top 10 win since defeating No. 6 Stanford on September 8, 2022.
NU's (4-1-2) win is the 16th ranked win in head coach Michael Moynihan's tenure and is its first ranked win since September 8, 2024 when it defeated No. 21 Virginia Tech, 1-0.
The loss is TCU's (4-1-0) first at home since August 20, 2023, when it fell 2-0 to No. 6 Florida State. The Horned Frogs were unbeaten in their last 18 at home (15-0-3) and had won seven straight games at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium.
For the sixth time in its first seven games, Northwestern started off on the front foot. Kennedy Roesch put the visitors on the scoreboard in the seventh minute, curling a shot from outside the 18-yard box over TCU goalkeeper Kira Ybarra for a 1-0 lead.
Northwestern dominated play in the second half, registering the first five shots of the half while looking to extend its advantage. The Wildcats outshot TCU 9-4 in the second half and 11-6 over the entire contest. NU controlled play late to secure the victory, holding the Horned Frogs without a shot in the final ten minutes of the game to finish it off.
First-year goalkeeper Nyamma Nelson collected her fourth career clean sheet in just her seventh career game. Nelson's four shutouts are tied for third-most by a first-year goalkeeper in program history.
Northwestern will begin Big Ten play on Friday, September 12 at No. 13 Iowa. Kickoff from Iowa City is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on B1G+.
